Perry man arrested after fleeing police by car and on foot

Eduardo Torres Aguilar, 30, of Perry, was arrested Wednesday on charges of fleeing and obstructing official acts. He was charged with speeding, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance, open container and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

A Perry man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to elude law enforcement.

Eduardo Torres Aguilar, 30, of 1420 North Street in Perry, was charged with eluding and obstructing official duties. He received citations for speeding, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance, open container and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The incident began at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of Iowa Highway 141 eastbound in Perry, where a Perry Police Department patrol officer observed Torres Aguilar driving a 2008 Chevy Aveo and “traveling at a speed of 73 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone,” according to court records.

The officer activated the patrol car’s hazard lights and siren to stop traffic, but Torres Aguilar “showed no intent to stop” and instead began to flee “in an attempt to elude the officer,” court documents state.

Torres Aguilar drove “erratically” south on 141st Drive and then fled the vehicle on foot. He “disobeyed several lawful commands to stop running” before a second officer intercepted and arrested him.

During a search of the vehicle, “open containers of alcohol” were found, according to court documents.

Torres Aguilar is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $1,000 cash or surety bail. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 12 in Dallas County District Court.
