Man from Breaux Bridge and Bunkie killed in traffic accident in Avoyelles Parish

A Breaux Bridge man and a Bunkie man were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Avoyelles Parish on July 4.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop E, the collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 29 near Overby Road near Bunkie.

The accident killed 75-year-old Robert Johnson of Breaux Bridge and 63-year-old Shepherd Roy Jr. of Bunkie.

Authorities said Roy was traveling north on the highway in a 2001 GMC Sierra when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Johnson.

According to state police, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither of them was wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators said impairment may have contributed to the incident. Toxicology samples were taken for analysis.
