Police have arrested a man for allegedly trying to break into Canadian rapper Drake’s Toronto home.

The incident came just a day after a security guard was shot dead by suspects in a vehicle outside the same apartment building.

Police have not said there is a connection between the two incidents.

Drake has been in a heated rap battle with Kendrick Lamar for weeks. However, the rap beef has not been linked to these recent events.

It was not made clear whether Drake was home during either incident.

In a statement obtained by CNN, police provided details of the alleged break-in attempt on Wednesday, saying they arrived at Drake’s home at 2:00 p.m. EDT (6:00 p.m. GMT) after being told that “a “The person attempted to gain access to the property.” “.

The person was “arrested” under Ontario’s Mental Health Act and then received medical attention, Ashley Visser said in the statement.

The Mental Health Act allows police to detain – rather than arrest – people who appear to be suffering from a mental disorder so they can receive medical treatment.

“No criminal charges are being laid at this time,” police later told the BBC.

On Tuesday, Toronto police said a security guard was shot overnight outside the same home in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighborhood.

The victim is in serious condition in hospital, Insp. Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force said earlier.

Drake is currently embroiled in a war of words with his US rap rival Kendrick Lamar, and the lyrical conflict between them has become bitterly personal – leading to a flood of “diss tracks”.

The BBC has contacted representatives from both artists for comment.

Drake’s home is the subject of the cover of Lamar’s latest song, “Not Like Us.”

Drake has previously spoken about his home, which he calls “The Embassy,” in his own music and on social media.

Because of its security needs, its gates are twice as high as city law allows.
