CPO suspends police officers over corruption allegations

RAWALPINDI – Rawalpindi City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani on Saturday suspended a police officer over corruption charges, a police spokesman said. The suspended police officer is Sub-Inspector Muhammad Safeer posted at Rawat Police Station, he added. The senior police officer also filed charges against the police officer facing corruption charges. According to him, CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani took notice of a video circulating on social media showing SI Muhammad Safeer accepting bribe from a litigant in his office at Rawat Police Station and suspended him. The CPO also initiated investigation against the corrupt police officer and filed charges against him. “Police officers involved in abuse of power, corruption and negligence while on duty will be subject to strict official punishment,” the CPO said in a statement. He said Rawalpindi Police believes in merit, partiality and accountability and no policeman should bring the reputation of the department into disrepute. Besides, Circuit Police officials have arrested two suspects who injured a traffic policeman by firing at Qasim Market, he said. The accused were identified as Nauman and Aizaz, against whom a case has already been registered. He said that Assistant Traffic Policeman Hamza stopped two motorists for violating a red light and issued them a ticket. However, one of the motorists shot at Assistant Traffic Policeman Hamza and mutilated him. The uniform of another traffic policeman was also torn by the accused, the police spokesman said, adding that both the accused were arrested.

CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani appreciated the efforts of the police team in nabping the accused.
