ICE seeks Haitian migrant accused of raping 15-year-old girl after being released on $500 bail

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is searching for a Haitian migrant accused of raping a disabled 15-year-old girl in March after he was released on low bail on Wednesday.

A Massachusetts judge has released Cory Alvarez on only $500 bail despite the charges, Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin reported in a post on X on Thursday. Prosecutors asked for $10,000 bail after Massachusetts Judge Susan Sullivan rejected the prosecution’s arguments to classify Alvarez as dangerous and detain him, according to the Patriot Ledger, a Massachusetts media outlet.(RELATED: ‘This is the result’: Democratic state sheriff cites ‘porous border’ as reason for ‘preventable’ murder of mother of five)

Alvarez was arrested for raping the 15-year-old girl at a Comfort Inn in Rockland, Massachusetts, that was being used as a migrant shelter when she asked for help loading an app on a tablet in March, CBS Boston reported. According to WCVB 5, a Boston-based station, ICE issued an arrest warrant for Alvarez after he was charged.

Authorities have been unable to locate Alvarez since Sullivan granted bail despite ICE’s detention, the Boston Herald reported. According to the Herald, ICE agents planned to arrest Alvarez after his release.

According to Melugin, Alvarez initially entered the United States in June 2023 through the “CHNV” program. The Biden administration’s program allows Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to receive humanitarian parole and enter the country, according to U.S. immigration authorities.

ICE has previously caught other sex offenders who have been released by Massachusetts courts. In June, ICE agents arrested a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala who had been released on bail after being accused of raping a child in Bristol County.

In April, ICE also detained an illegal immigrant from Cape Verde who had previously been convicted of public nuisance charges.

Illegal immigration has become a major issue in the 2024 election campaign following a series of crimes involving illegal immigrants. Authorities in Oklahoma arrested 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, for the August 2023 murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin in Maryland on June 14. Houston authorities arrested two men on June 20 and charged them with capital crimes in connection with the rape and murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray. In February, Jose Antonio Ibarra, an immigrant from Venezuela who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border, was arrested by University of Georgia police and charged with the murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.

ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
