Broward RV dealership owner arrested for failing to pay $471,000 in taxes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. — The prominent owner of a South Florida RV dealership could spend up to 30 years behind bars after she was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing government funds, which authorities said she failed to pay nearly half a million dollars in taxes.

Gigi Stetler, 62, of Southwest Ranches, owns Planet RV at 1820 NW 21st St. in Pompano Beach, according to state business records. She also runs a company called The RV Advisor.

Stetler, of Planet RV’s parent company, RV Sales of Broward, “collected and failed to remit at least $471,447.35 in sales tax from May 2019 through June 2023,” an investigator with that agency wrote in a probable cause affidavit obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday.

RV Sales of Broward is registered at 2051 Griffin Road in Dania Beach.

The affidavit states that state authorities made several attempts to “settle the company’s sales tax arrears and ensure Stetler’s “voluntary compliance,” including making five phone calls to her.

According to investigators, Stetler declined to comment.

Local 10 News has interviewed Stetler in the past, once in 2016 regarding a lawsuit she filed against the CNBC reality show host and again in 2021 regarding a fire at the former Planet RV location in Davie.

Jail records show Stetler was still in custody at the North Broward Bureau Detention Center on $10,000 bail as of Thursday morning.

No attorney was listed for her in online court records.
