Fire in Cleveland, Texas: Woman and 9-month-old baby found dead

When emergency services arrived, they managed to get the 84-year-old woman out of the house, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

CLEVELAND, Texas — An 84-year-old woman and a nine-month-old child were found dead in a mobile home fire in the Tarkington area near Cleveland, Texas, Tuesday night, according to the Liberty County Fire Marshal.

Crews from the Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department and the Cleveland Fire Department arrived at the scene of the accident on County Road 2198 around 8 p.m.

When emergency responders arrived, they managed to get the woman out of the house, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The child’s body was discovered when emergency responders re-entered the house.

The fire was quickly extinguished. Investigators said it started in the living room. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The state fire marshal is also expected to investigate the fire.
