2 dead in fire along Broad Street in Hunting Park – NBC10 Philadelphia

The burned-out wreckage of a vehicle stood for hours at the intersection of East Hunting Park Avenue and Broad Street in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood early Tuesday after a fiery crash killed two people, police said.

According to police officials, the incident occurred shortly before 1:45 a.m. Tuesday when a sedan traveling south on Broad Street collided head-on with a blue Toyota RAV 4 traveling north.

The impact threw a driver from his vehicle before it burst into flames, police said.

Officials said the 46-year-old driver of the RAV 4 was dead when officers arrived at the scene and the other driver was arrested by emergency responders at the scene at around 1:51 a.m.

Terrell Mason, who witnessed the incident, told NBC10 that the incident was so chaotic that he was not sure who was responsible for the accident.

“The intersection looks like a total mess,” he said. “You can’t even imagine who hit who or what car came along here. You can’t even look. You would have to look at one of the cameras at one of the stores to find out how the accident happened, because right now you can’t tell.”

The drivers of both vehicles died in the accident, police said, and their deaths were confirmed at the scene.

According to officials, an investigation into this incident is ongoing.
