Accident on the east side leads to murder investigation

According to St. Paul police, the death of a man late Monday night on the city’s east side has been ruled a homicide.

Police were called to the intersection of Van Dyke St. and York Ave. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired and a vehicle crash shortly after 10:30 p.m.

When St. Paul Police (SPPD) arrived, they found a Chevy Tahoe that had crashed into a tree. The man driving had a gunshot wound to the upper body. Although medical help was called and first aid was administered, the man died at the scene.

The SPPD says investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. In addition, the forensics division will examine the crime scene and look for evidence that could help determine what happened.

The Ramsey County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.

According to police, this is the 12th murder in St. Paul in 2024.
