Amtrak and NJ Transit suspend some services due to power outages

A power outage near New York’s Penn Station affected Amtrak and New Jersey Transit rail service on Thursday afternoon.

Amtrak has suspended train service between New Haven, Connecticut and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while crews work to restore power. Amtrak expects significant delays.

NJ Transit has suspended service to and from New York Penn Station due to the problems. Midtown Direct trains are being rerouted to Hoboken.

NJ Transit officials say rail tickets and passes are mutually accepted. For more information, visit the NJ Transit website.

The delays came less than two days after another disruption due to problems with Amtrak’s overhead wires.

Commuters faced delays of up to an hour and a half on Tuesday evening, and some lines were closed completely on Tuesday and Wednesday. These disruptions come ahead of a fare increase due to come into force on July 1.

Governor Phil Murphy criticized NJ Transit and Amtrak officials for the problems and said his office is working to get to the bottom of any disruptions.
