Carter Lake City Council makes investigation into council member public

In another dramatic night at the Carter Lake City Council meeting, council members backtracked on a decision made at last Wednesday’s special meeting. The council voted 4-1 to make an investigative report on Councilor Jackie Wahl public. Wahl was the lone dissenting vote. Wahl has been accused by four city employees, including of calling the police out of revenge. Councilor Aaron Grell said he changed his mind about releasing the report after hearing residents’ opinions following last Wednesday’s decision. “We spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on this investigation,” one resident told the council. Grell pointed the finger at Mayor Rob Cumberledge. “The mayor has failed to get a handle on the situation and it’s turned into an ugly mess,” he said. As tense as things were, there was a good tone toward the end of the meeting: “I think we can all get along,” he said. “I think everyone up here is Team Carter Lake. Aaron (Grell) and I may disagree, but we’re here to do what’s best.” KETV does not yet have the report that the council voted to release, but filed a request for the records Monday night. Wahl denies any wrongdoing that would justify the investigation. She says it was not a fair investigation.

In another dramatic evening at the Carter Lake City Council meeting, council members backtracked on a decision made at last Wednesday’s special meeting.

The council voted 4-1 to release an investigative report on Council Member Jackie Wahl. Wahl was the only dissenting vote.

Wahl was accused by four city employees, including of calling the police on one of them in revenge.

Council member Aaron Grell said he changed his mind about releasing the report after hearing residents’ opinions following last Wednesday’s decision.

“We spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on this study,” one resident told the council.

Grell pointed the finger at Mayor Rob Cumberledge.

“The mayor failed to get the situation under control and it turned into an ugly mess,” he said.

As tense as the situation was, there was a high point near the end of the meet: “I think we can all get along,” he said. “I think everyone up here is Team Carter Lake. Aaron (Grell) and I may disagree, but we’re here to do the best we can.”

KETV does not yet have access to the report that the Council has decided to publish, but submitted a request to inspect the documents on Monday evening.

Wahl denies any wrongdoing that would justify the investigation. She says it was not a fair investigation.
