Pastor sentenced to life imprisonment for rape

An Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Pastor Enoch Ebinyiam of Winners’ Chapel in Omuo-Ekiti to life imprisonment for raping a minor.

Attorney General Julius Ajibade, who represented the case for the Ekiti State Government, called four witnesses and presented two exhibits.

He stated in court that the minor was a member of the pastor’s parish and that he raped her during one of her visits when she wanted to help his wife in the rectory.

He said the pastor gave the girl drugged Fanta which made her fall asleep before raping her, causing her to bleed from her private parts, in violation of Section 2 of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Act, 2019.

The accused spoke through his lawyer Adeyinka Opaleke, who called a witness.

Judge OIO Ogunyemi found that the prosecution had proven the charge of rape against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him and imposed a life sentence.
