Air quality warning issued for Chicago area

CHICAGODue to scorching temperatures, an air quality warning was issued for the Chicago area on Sunday.

The National Weather Service said the warning will remain in effect through Monday for Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kendall, McHenry, Grundy and Will counties.

The air quality index was at 1-2 on a scale of five due to elevated ozone and particulate matter levels. People in the area are advised to limit their outdoor activities, especially those with chronic respiratory conditions.

Starting today, Chicago is expecting 32 degrees for almost an entire week. On Father’s Day, highs of just over 32 degrees are expected, with isolated showers possible.

Small showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the next few days.

In the next few days, temperatures could reach or even exceed 100 degrees at times.

No noticeable cooling is expected until next Sunday. From 90 degrees to 70 degrees it could then be about 20 degrees colder.
