Shooting at the paddling pool in Rochester Hills: 8 injured, suspect dead

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to a shooting incident Saturday at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills that left eight people injured, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

In a press release Saturday evening, the sheriff’s office said there were eight victims of varying ages, with the youngest being eight years old.

According to several local media reports, the suspect committed suicide after being “held” in a house in Shelby Township for several hours following the attack.

“It appears the individual stopped, got out of a vehicle, approached the water playground and opened fire. Reloaded. Opened fire. Reloaded. Walked away. It was very random. There is no connection to the victims at this point,” Bouchard said, adding that the shooter was only 20 feet away from the victims. A gun, a 9mm Glock, was recovered at the scene along with three magazines. The suspect fired 28 shots, according to Bouchard.
