Gordon Ramsay urges cyclists to “wear a helmet” after sustaining injuries in a frightening bicycle crash in Connecticut.

“Unfortunately, I had a really bad accident that really shook me up. And honestly, I’m glad I’m here,” said the Master Chef The 57-year-old presenter shared his experience via an Instagram video on Saturday, June 15. Ramsay thanked the nurses and doctors who cared for him after the accident and stressed the importance of head protection for cyclists of all ages and experience levels.

“Honestly, you have to wear a helmet. I don’t care how short the ride is,” he said. “I don’t care … that these helmets cost money. They are essential.”

Ramsay also shared a photo of himself with his road bike before the accident and another photo showing the aftermath of his helmet hitting the tarmac. The photo showed a tear on the front of his helmet as well as his torn cycling jersey.

“I’m glad I can stand here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week,” he said before opening his chef’s jacket to reveal his left side was one big bruise. “I’m getting through this somehow.”

In his Instagram post, Ramsay said he had “no broken bones or sustained any major injuries,” but added that he looked “like a purple potato.”

“I am grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who took care of me and examined me,” he wrote, “but I am most grateful for my helmet that saved my life. Happy Father’s Day and stay safe.”

Ramsay knows a thing or two about being a father. He has six children with wife Cayetana “Tana” RamsayGordon and Tana, 49, welcomed their youngest child, Jesse, in November 2023.

Gordon is not the only celebrity who had a bicycle accident last year. Nina Dobrev In an e-bike accident in May, she broke her knee and injured her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. Comedian Kenny DeForest died in December at the age of 37 from complications following an e-bike accident in Brooklyn.

In 2022 Amy Grant was unconscious for nearly 20 minutes when she hit a pothole and fell while on a bike ride in Nashville. In an interview in February, she mentioned that she still has neurological problems after the accident.

“I still have problems with my short-term memory. My balance is still weird,” Grant, 63, told E! News. “I made a joke about it last night. You know, sometimes I walk around like I’m drunk and I just have to laugh at everything.”
