Six-year-old raped and killed in Peddapalli, accused arrested

In a horrific incident, a six-year-old girl was raped and killed by a man in Peddapalli district of Telangana on Thursday, June 13. The incident took place at a rice mill in Katnapalli village of Sultanabad mandal. Police identified the accused as 28-year-old Vinod and filed a case against him.

According to reports, the girl along with her parents and younger sister migrated to Sultanabad from Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. Her father was previously working at a petrol station in Sultanabad but after losing that job, he was employed in the rice mill about a month ago and was living in the quarters on the mill premises.

Meanwhile, Vinod, a native of Bihar, was employed in another rice mill nearby. The minor’s family spoke to the media and said they did not know the accused.

“There was a power outage around 10:30 p.m., so I slept with my two daughters in the open space in front of our accommodation. When I woke up in the middle of the night, we realized that the child was missing. We asked the neighbors, but she was nowhere. When we informed the owner, he checked the video footage. We alerted the police,” her mother told the media.

According to video footage circulating in the media, the accused could be seen carrying the minor and walking away from the mill. The minor’s body was found in the field at around 6 a.m. the following day.

“After receiving the information, we immediately sent a search party. Based on the information, we nabbed the accused, who had gone to work the next day as usual. The accused has confessed to the crime. He has been remanded in judicial custody,” Ramagundam police commissioner M Srinivasulu told TNM.

He added that a case of rape and murder had been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The body was shifted to Sultanabad Government Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s office issued a press release stating that the government would stand by the victim’s family.
