Parents arrested on Mississippi coast after bringing dead baby to hospital, police said

Authorities on Thursday charged Biloxi parents with child abuse after the couple brought a dead toddler to the hospital, according to police.

Summer Rose Hill, 20, and Takavian Keivon Gibbs, 21, arrived at Merit Health Hospital around 1 p.m. with a deceased 5-month-old baby, Biloxi police said in a news release Thursday evening.

Authorities described the death as “suspicious” and said an initial examination by medical staff found the child “had multiple injuries consistent with abuse.”

Police took the couple to the Harrison County Jail late Thursday.

Hill and Gibbs are both charged with child abuse. They are being held on $500,000 bail set by Judge Albert Fountain.

The investigation into one death is ongoing. Police said further charges are possible.

Biloxi Police are asking anyone with information about the death to contact the Biloxi Police Department Criminal Investigation Division (228) 435-6112, the Biloxi Police Department Operations Center (228) 392-0641, the Biloxi City Criminal Investigation Division ([email protected]), or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers (877) 787-5898, or submit a tip online at mscoastcrimestoppers.com.
