Roanoke gang members arrested after chase involving meth, heroin and firearms: police

Two members of a Roanoke gang were arrested Thursday after guns and drugs were found in a car, including more than two pounds of meth, police said.

During a Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force operation, members said they identified known gang members who were distributing drugs in large quantities. Officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, but it failed to stop. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle was stopped in the 3500 block of Valley View Avenue in Roanoke by members of the Virginia State Police Special Operations Division.

Law enforcement seized approximately 934 grams of methamphetamine, 49 grams of heroin/fentanyl, 7 fentanyl pills, 4 firearms and cash from the vehicle.

Damarius Warrick, 25, and Zeleek Wright-Johnson, 20, were arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
  • Possession of heroin/fentanyl with intent to resell.
  • Possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
  • Possession of a firearm and simultaneous possession of narcotics on schedules 1-2.

Warrick and Wright-Johnson are currently being held without bail at the Roanoke Adult Detention Center. Additional charges are expected after consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.

The Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, along with the United States Postal Service Inspectors Office and the Roanoke Police Department Gang Interdiction Unit, conducted the drug operation.

The Star City Drug and Violent Crime Task Force includes investigators from the Virginia State Police, City of Roanoke Police Department, Salem Police Department, Roanoke County Police Department and Vinton Police Department.
