Man arrested after firearm incident in Vernon County

VIROQUA, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A man is arrested following a shooting in Vernon County yesterday morning (5/6/24). The sheriff’s office said it received a call at 11:15 a.m. that someone had fired a gun during a fight in the town of Viroqua.

Officers responded to the scene and learned that the 41-year-old female victim was safe. At 11:30 a.m., officers found the suspect, 44-year-old Nakeil Bettis, walking through a cornfield. The fired weapon was also found. Bettis was held at the Vernon County Detention Center and has since been released after posting $1,000 bail. He will be back in court tomorrow (05/08/24).
