KSP: Woman found dead in Letcher Co., apparently with injuries from animal attack | WJHL

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WJHL) – A woman was found dead in Letcher County with injuries consistent with an animal attack, Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced Monday.

According to a KSP news release, troopers responded to Doty Creek in the Jeremiah area of ​​Letcher County just before 1 a.m. Sunday. State police received a 911 call that a woman had been found dead in the area.


When police arrived, they found the dead woman, identified as Trina Sandlin, 57, of Jeremiah.

The KSP reported Monday that preliminary investigations revealed that Sandlin left her home earlier in the evening to go to a neighbor’s house but never returned.

The press release states that family members found her “near her home on an embankment. She had sustained injuries consistent with an animal attack.”

The medical examiner pronounced Sandlin dead at the scene. Her body was sent for an autopsy.

The incident was still under investigation as of Monday.
