Buffalo man charged in shooting at Jaylen Griffin memorial

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — New charges have been filed against a Buffalo man following an alleged shooting incident at a vigil, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.

On April 22, a memorial service was held near Memorial Drive and Sweet Avenue for Jaylen Griffin, a boy who was found dead after being missing for nearly four years. At about 7:15 p.m., Buffalo police arrived in the area because of reports of shots being fired, officials said.

Daevon M. Roberts, 25, allegedly pointed a gun during an argument and shot a victim as he drove away. He is accused of attempting to inflict serious bodily harm on the victim.

Roberts was charged with attempted first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Roberts is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 18. He remains on supervised release and faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

A temporary protection order issued on behalf of the victim remains effective.
