Hamburg, New York — The 3-year-old colts and gelding pacers are affectionately known as the “glamor division.” When the New York Sire Stakes arrives at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (June 5), one of the biggest stars in the standings will headline the 15-race schedule that begins at 2:30 p.m.

Boston Rocks, champion 2-year-old pacer of the New York Sire Stakes and winner of $382,172 during his brief career, leads the field of six horses who will win $58,100 in the seventh race.

Last season, the Boston Rocks covered the field in 1:56.2 at Buffalo Raceway, beating Vandiemen Bluechip by 5-3/4 lengths. This was just a stepping stone for big things to come for the Boston Rocks (Boston Red Rocks-Scirocco Sarah) in 2023.

Boston Rocks has one victory so far in 2024, this one at Tioga Downs on May 4. But since then, he has finished second twice, including his last try where he finished second by a half-length in the NYSS at Saratoga Raceway. .

Starting at second, Jason Bartlett is expected to take the reins from coach Michael Deters.

Luckily, Vandiemen Bluechip found himself on the field again against the Boston Rocks this year at Buffalo Raceway. Additionally, Darius, who scored a victory last season in the NYSS on the half-mile oval located at the Erie County Fairgrounds, is also in the stacked field.

Vandiemen Bluechip (Huntsville-Peppermint Patti) won $159,194 last year in just nine appearances. He hopes to change his fortunes this time at Buffalo Raceway after being on the short side against the Boston Rocks.

Last season, Darius survived a rebound at the quarter post and an investigation, but still beat Dealers Turn in 1:57. Mark MacDonald will score Darius (Huntsville-Miss Sowo) from the rail.

Others competing in the seventh race include Heave Away (Brett Beckwith), Spring Blake (TBA) and local hopeful Salute America (Kyle Cummings).

The NYSS Division One, with a $57,000 purse, will tee off in the opening match. There’s a lot of hope and promise in this area, with someone picking up a valuable 50 points as well as a big payday.

Ameritric (Beckwith) drew the inside and finished third at Saratoga in the NYSS in his last start. Cruzin America (Tyler Buter) has three second-place finishes across his trios this season while Taranaki (Mark Herschberger) has been in the money in all four of his starts this campaign, including two wins.

The rest of the field includes Pop It (MacDonald) and Jones Hanover (Bartlett).

The schedule will also include a trio of $20,000 events in the Excelsior Series for sophomore men, as well as the Open Pace for ladies and two races in the Spring Up Series.
