Man arrested for attempted murder after shots fired at police officers in Putnam County, Tennessee

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man is charged with attempted murder for shooting at police officers in Putnam County Saturday afternoon.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the northbound and southbound lanes on State Route 56 at the intersection with State Route 24/Nashville Highway were closed due to “police activity” reported shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to a home on Highway 56 to check on the welfare of officers. When they arrived at the scene, officers were reportedly shot at from the front window.

After additional officers arrived at the scene and set up a security cordon, Sheriff Eddie Farris arrived and was able to negotiate the surrender of the perpetrator, officials said.

Authorities told News 2 that Danny K. Roberts was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail.
