Alexandria cyclist killed in Frederick County crash

FREDERICK COUNTY, Maryland (DC News Now) — Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating after an Alexandria man was killed in a car crash in Frederick County Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., MSP officers responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and Catoctin Furnace Road after a bicyclist and a car collided.

Investigators said a Toyota 4Runner was traveling north on US-15 when it struck the bicyclist crossing the intersection.

The cyclist, 64-year-old Scott Cornell Binde of Alexandria, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene while police investigated. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but MSP said alcohol was not a factor.

U.S. Route 15 northbound was closed for about three hours.
