Tracking heat, humidity and rain/storm chances this week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – It’s officially June… and over the course of the next week, it will definitely feel like it. Temperatures will climb back up to around 90 degrees by midweek, humidity will be noticeable and typical for summer, there may be a scattered afternoon rain, and thunderstorms are possible every day from now through Thursday.

It wasn’t the nicest Saturday. Clouds covered the area and waves of rain and storms hit the region. Maximum temperatures today barely rose above 21 degrees, with only a few places even dropping below 27 degrees. The humidity is noticeable and will only get worse as the week progresses.

Tonight will remain cloudy. A few passing showers are possible, along with a clap or two of thunder. Winds will be from the southeast around 5 mph, gusting at times. Lows will be in the 60s.

Sunday will see lots of clouds again, with some sunny spells. Highs will be around 27 degrees Celsius, with a southwest wind of around 8 km/h. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible, especially in the afternoon hours as the day heats up. Lows will be around 15 degrees Celsius, with persistent showers in the early morning.

As the work week begins, the weather becomes very summery. Very fitting for the first full week of June.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will see sun and clouds every afternoon. Highs will be in the 90s. The humidity factor will be noticeable, making it feel hotter than the air temperature outside.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon hours, all thanks to the heat and humidity that will prevail early to mid-next week. These thunderstorms will be very intermittent. Any storm that develops could bring heavy rain, light gusts, and possibly small hail.

Shower and storm activity is being aided by a northwesterly flow in the atmosphere. Storm clusters are forming in the northwest and moving in our direction. Some storm clusters will make it to Alabama, others will not. We will be watching closely this week.

A frontal boundary is expected to move across the region on Thursday. This will increase the risk of rain and storms and the thunderstorms will be more scattered. Maximum temperatures will be between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures at 21 degrees Celsius. As soon as the front moves south, the probability of rain on Friday and Saturday will be lower.

Speaking of Friday, highs for Saturday will be in the 30s under mostly to partly cloudy skies. Mostly dry weather is expected and there are also *some* signs of lower humidity creeping in behind the front for a few days, which would be very nice for the second weekend in June. We’ll be following the front closely this week.
