Shawn Mireles was shot after jumping a fence to find his friend’s stolen vehicle on Brownsville Street, officials say.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Deputies say a 21-year-old was shot and killed Monday at what appeared to be a chop shop in eastern Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office posted about the shooting on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The location is known in the community as a hack shop and dumping ground for stolen vehicles and stolen vehicle parts,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on social media.

Gonzalez said 21-year-old Sherwin Mireles discovered his friend’s stolen truck was in front of the store and jumped the fence of the store on Brownsville Street in the Cloverleaf area around 5 a.m.

Investigators said Mireles apologized when he was caught, but an employee named Jorge Zuniga Martinez allegedly shot him anyway.

First responders pronounced Mireles dead at the scene and Zuniga is charged with murder.
