Traffic alert: Car fire closes lanes of I-264 in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia — Beach-bound drivers should expect extra heavy traffic on Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach Saturday night due to a car fire.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the fire broke out on eastbound I-264 at mile marker 16.8, less than a mile east of the Independence Boulevard exit and near Mount Trashmore Park.

From 8 p.m., one eastbound lane and the ramp will be closed.

There is currently no information as to whether there are any injuries or what the cause of the fire might be.
