Minnesota man pleads guilty to fatal drunk driving incident

Anoka, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Minneapolis man is facing a recommended prison sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

35-year-old Cody Jazdzewski was arrested and charged last summer after he lost control of a BMW convertible and hit two pedestrians before crashing into a tree. The fatal incident occurred last July on Highway 65 in Columbia Heights.

The prosecution revealed that the out-of-control car hit 58-year-old Carrie Rivero and 63-year-old James Beller. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while Rivero was pronounced dead at the scene. Both victims were from Minneapolis.

According to the criminal complaint, a state trooper on routine patrol was the first to arrive at the scene and found the vehicle mangled against a tree and Jazdzewski with bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.

Court documents say he admitted to drinking and a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of over 0.13 per mille.

Jazdzewski’s sentencing is scheduled for August.
