Police investigation near Robert O. Cook Memorial Arboretum in Janesville, avoid the area | Top stories

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) – Citizens should avoid the area of the Janesville Schools Outdoor Lab (JSOL) located at 3570 County Road A.

At approximately 11:37 a.m. Thursday morning, Janesville Police sent out an alert that there was an ongoing law enforcement investigation near the Robert O. Cook Memorial Arboretum.

Students who visited JSOL on Thursday morning had to cancel their field trip due to the police presence.

Janesville School District officials said that while JPD did not believe anyone was in immediate danger because they were conducting a welfare check on an individual, the decision was made to return students to school quickly and safely.

“We are grateful for JPD’s quick response to notify our teams and for the assistance of our police liaison officer and bus company Van Galder to address this situation,” an SDJ spokesperson said.

All students/staff who were at JSOL were safely returned to their schools. All afternoon trips to JSOL have been canceled.

Police said more information will be released at a later date.
