The flags were lowered in honor of the slain Euclid officer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered flags lowered in Cuyahoga County and select buildings in Columbus in honor of a Northeast Ohio police officer who was fatally shot Saturday night.

DeWine said the United States and Ohio state flags will be flown at half-staff at all public buildings and grounds throughout Cuyahoga County, as well as at the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center and the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus, starting Sunday until sunset should be the day of the officer’s funeral.

All other public buildings and facilities throughout the state may fly flags at half-staff for the same period at their discretion.

Euclid police told 10TV’s sister station WKYC that a police officer named Jacob Derbin was shot after being ambushed by a suspect in suburban Cleveland.

Police are still searching for the suspect in the shooting.
