Euclid police officer dead after ambush shooting

EUCLID, Ohio – A Euclid police officer was shot and killed Saturday evening in what authorities are calling an “ambush” after officers responded to a disturbance on East 211th Street.

Residents in the area told television station WKYC that they heard about 12 gunshots during the incident, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m

“The Euclid Police Department asks that you keep the fallen officer, his family, loved ones and our agency in your thoughts and prayers. Further details will be released as appropriate,” Euclid police said in a statement.

WKYC News reporters early Sunday observed police officers wearing tactical gear and using drones, a helicopter and a police dog to assist in the search for the suspect, 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn.

Police said the suspect may be driving a white Volkswagen Passat with a temporary license plate.

Police declined to provide further details to cleveland.com Sunday morning.
