Kevin Spacey has to stand trial again in the UK on civil sexual assault charges

Kevin Spacey will return to a British court to stand trial early next year. The news comes a day after new allegations against the two-time Oscar winner were aired in a Channel 4-Max documentary.

According to Variety, Spacey will face a civil trial in the UK after being sued by a man who claims he sexually assaulted him.

The trial will take place early next year. The man, who was granted anonymity by the court, claims he “suffered psychiatric harm and other financial losses” as a result of the alleged sexual assault.

Spacey’s legal team was in court today responding to a ruling in favor of Spacey’s accuser after failing to file its defense in a timely manner. Spacey was not present. According to Reuters, Adam Speker, a lawyer representing Spacey, said it was a “real mistake” by the actor’s legal team from the renowned British law firm Carter-Ruck. Speker argued that it would be unfair for the plaintiff to actually win his lawsuit against Spacey without a trial if he had been “disbelieved by a jury under oath,” and the case would therefore go to trial.

Last year, the House of cards And American beauty Star was found not guilty at London’s Southwark Crown Court on nine charges, including sexual assaults allegedly committed between 2001 and 2013 and involving four men.

The news comes a day after further allegations against Kevin Spacey were broadcast on Channel 4 and Max’s Spacey exposed doc, which ends tonight. Several men have made the allegations, including a former actor, Ruari Cannon, who says Spacey touched him in a very intimate way in June 2013, when he was 21. Spacey denies the allegations and says Channel 4 did not give him enough time to respond, which the broadcaster denies. Over the weekend, Spacey appeared on former GB News presenter Dan Wootton’s YouTube channel and said: “I take full responsibility for my behavior and actions to date.” But I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone , who made up things about me or told exaggerated stories about me.”

Deadline has reached out to Spacey’s representatives for comment.
