Two women dead – NBC New York

A mother and grandmother were killed in a shooting on the Upper East Side on Friday morning. According to the New York Police Department, the police are investigating it as a murder-suicide in the course of a custody dispute.

The shooting occurred on East 88th Street between York Avenue and East End Avenue. The FDNY said it arrived at the scene just before 9 a.m.

Officers arrived at the scene on East 88th Street and found a woman in the street near the rear of a parked Honda Civic and a second woman lying on the sidewalk, police said. Both women were shot in the head, the NYPD said.

A one-year-old child was found sitting in the back seat of the car and was unharmed in the shooting, police said.

The shooter is believed to be the child’s grandmother, a retired probation officer from Illinois who has lived in New York City for three years, police said. Police seized two weapons and said they are not looking for any other suspects.

According to police, the victim is the child’s mother, who was shot while loading a stroller into the truck of the car.

The motive for the shooting is being investigated as an ongoing domestic dispute, during which police said there have been several reports of domestic incidents and complaints related to a custody dispute.

The shooting occurred near Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York Mayor Eric Adams, located east of East End Avenue.
