3 dead and 6 injured in shooting at open-air party in Philadelphia

Three people were killed and six others injured in a shooting in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The dead victims were only identified as a 33-year-old man, a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. Five men aged between 27 and 30 and a 26-year-old woman were injured.

Police arrived at the scene in West Philadelphia’s Carroll Park neighborhood around 2 a.m., authorities said. Investigators determined that “shooting between multiple parties” had occurred at an outdoor gathering.

Police found a gun and 25 to 30 cartridge cases from multiple weapons at the scene. No suspects have been named or arrested.

The 33-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was shot at close range and probably deliberately, said Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace.

Pace said police will review surveillance videos and interview witnesses. She estimates that about 100 people were at the party.

The shooting on Sunday morning was the third fatal mass shooting at an outdoor party in Philadelphia this year, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. On July 4, 19-year-old Maurice Quann was killed and eight other people between the ages of 14 and 24 were injured at a “pop-up party” in the Kingsessing neighborhood. No arrests were made in that shooting.

And on June 14, 17-year-old Isya Stanley was shot at a similar party in the Fairmount Park neighborhood. Four other teenagers were injured in the shooting, but no arrests have been made so far.

Overall, however, the number of homicides in Philadelphia has fallen 39% so far this year compared to the same period last year, according to Philadelphia Police Department statistics.
