Mobile phone and internet services will remain suspended in Quetta on 7 and 10 Muharram

QUETTA – As part of security measures, authorities have decided to suspend mobile and internet services in Balochistan’s capital Quetta on 7 and 10 Muharram.

Balochistan Home Minister Meer Ziaullah Langau confirmed the development and said services would remain suspended from 6:00 am to midnight.

Devotees across the country took out processions and held majalis during Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The government is taking strict security measures to avoid any untoward incidents and has implemented Article 144 in the seven districts of Muharram Province from 1 to 10.

Earlier this month, the federal government of Pakistan approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAF) across the country to ensure security during the Muharram days.

The Interior Ministry issued a statement in this regard, saying that the government had sought to deploy the military to maintain peace and order in the country.

The statement said: “The timing of the lifting of the seizure will be decided at a later date following mutual agreement with all parties involved.”
