Houston Police Department officer run over by suspects accused of robbing CVS pharmacy near Washington Corridor and Detering St.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Houston Police Department officer was hospitalized after being run over by two robbery suspects near the Washington Avenue Coalition/Memorial Park neighborhood.

The situation unfolded at a CVS store in the 5400 block of Washington Avenue after 3 a.m. Thursday.

According to HPD Lt. Wilkens, two armed suspects entered the building and threatened store employees with a firearm while attempting to access the cash registers and safe, but were unsuccessful.

At one point, the suspects demanded a debit card from one of the workers and, police say, were able to withdraw a few hundred dollars.

Once HPD arrived, the suspects fled on foot, pursued by officers.

An officer grabbed one of the suspects as they tried to get into a car to flee, but the suspect broke free and ran over the officer’s leg, police said.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, Wilkens said.

However, the suspects did not get very far before crashing into a fence and fleeing on foot again.

HPD said a perimeter was set up with K9 officers to search for the suspects, but they were not found.
