Surveillance video from July 2016 shows Lashaya walking alone near her mother’s home in Aurora. Her mother, Sabrina Jones, believes Lashaya was out to meet a boy she believes was a bad influence on her daughter, a straight-A student at George Washington High School. This is the last known video of the then-16-year-old.

The last credible tip about Lashaya came a few years ago when someone said they saw her at a hotel in East Colfax. But nothing ever came of it and the hotline has been quiet since then.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort from the Aurora Police Department. They searched and asked the public for help. In November 2020, the FBI searched a home on Lansing Street in Aurora for three days but found nothing.

Sabrina believes the trail was lost because Lashaya was taken out of the country.

“I used to be so scared that someone was going to tell me she died,” Lashaya’s mother said in 2022. “But now it’s like… I’m at the point now where, whatever it is, please someone help me find out what happened to her. More than anything in the world, even if it means the worst, I just want to know what happened to her… good or bad. If she’s out there living her best life, I want to know about it. If she’s living under another identity, I just want to know that. If my baby is no longer alive, I want to know that.”
