VIZIANAGARAM: In a shocking incident, a six-month-old baby was allegedly raped by his 40-year-old paternal uncle in Ramabhadrapuram mandal of Vizianagarm district on Saturday.

The incident came to light after the defendant was arrested on Sunday morning.

According to Bobili DSP Srinivas Rao, on Saturday morning, the infant’s mother, after bathing the baby and placing him in the cradle, went to the nearby general store to get groceries. At that time, the accused went inside the house and reportedly committed a heinous act there. No one else was there at that time.

“The baby was crying and when the mother heard it, she sent her ten-year-old older daughter to see what had happened. The girl saw that her little sister was being held by the accused and was bleeding from her private parts. She rushed back to her mother and told her what she had seen,” the police officer explained.

“The mother rushed home and confronted the accused, who was drunk. When he tried to flee, the mother tried to attack him with a stick, but he managed to escape. Villagers chased him, but in vain,” he added.

The child was later taken to the government hospital in Badangi and later to the government hospital in Vizinagaram. Her condition is stable, they said.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother filed a complaint with Ramabhadrapuram police and on the instructions of Vizianagaram SP, Bobbili DSP Srinivas Rao registered a case under the POCSO Act and initiated an investigation.

“The accused has been identified as Boyana Yerrakanna Dora of Narlavalasa. We arrested him from his house on Sunday morning. We found blood stains on his clothes and sent them to the forensic laboratory. He will be produced in the court later today,” the DSP said.

Tribal Minister Gumadi Sandhya Rani and others condemned the heinous incident and demanded strict action against the accused.
