Yeury Tatiz and Charlie Zink suspended due to positive doping tests

NEW YORK – Seattle Mariners right-hander Yeury Tatiz was suspended for 80 games and Boston Red Sox right-hander Charlie Zink was suspended for 56 games after testing positive for drug abuse.

Tatiz was suspended due to a positive clomiphene test as part of the minor league doping program, the commissioner’s office said Friday. Zink was disciplined due to a positive stanozolol test as part of the doping program for minor league players who play outside the United States and Canada.

Tatiz, 23, has a 1-2 record and a 3.00 ERA in 21 appearances as a relief pitcher for Class A Modesto this year. He signed with Seattle in 2017 for a $425,000 signing bonus.

Zink has a no-hit record and an ERA of 8.53 in four starts for the Dominican Summer League Red Sox. The 18-year-old from Curaçao signed in December for a $70,000 bonus.

This year, six players were disciplined under the minor league program and two under the new program for minor league players stationed outside the United States and Canada.

One player was banned this year as part of the Major League doping program: Noelvi Marté, a 22-year-old infielder and promising young player for the Cincinnati Reds, missed the first 80 games of the season after testing positive for boldenone.
