Two Georgia players arrested for reckless driving

On Thursday morning, it was announced that two Georgia football players were arrested for reckless driving. One of them was also charged with racing, as first reported by UGAsports.com. Offensive lineman Bo Hughley was involved in a single-car crash. The incident involved lane failure and reckless driving. Linebacker Smael Mondon was also charged with reckless driving and racing. The two incidents were unrelated and separate.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, this isn’t the first case of reckless driving in the last year. In fact, it was announced on Wednesday that running back Trevor Etienne had new developments in his incident. According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, a recent update detailed that charges of driving under the influence and driving under the age of 21 were dropped, while Etienne pleaded not guilty to the reckless driving charge.

The incident occurred in March of this year, shortly after Etienne announced his transfer to the University of Georgia after two seasons there. After the incident, head coach Kirby Smart spoke about it and had the following to say to members of the media:

“I want to start by repeating what I said last week about the boy. He’s a great boy from a great family. He’s done a great job since he’s been here. As we all know, young people don’t always make great decisions. He’s embarrassed, he’s upset. It’s a teaching moment and I hope he learns from it. He will be subject to both internal and university disciplinary action.”
