Heat warning | First warning day on Tuesday, perceived temperatures could reach 41 degrees

CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA (WTVD) — On Tuesday and Wednesday, heat will return to central North Carolina with temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius and could cause the perceived temperature to rise to 41 degrees.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This comes less than a week after Raleigh recorded its hottest day on record at 41 degrees on Friday, July 5. The feel temperature also remained in the triple digits on Friday. The previous highest temperature recorded in Raleigh was 41 degrees. That happened in 1952, 1988, 2007 and 2012.

looking ahead

Heat and humidity will lead to randomly scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms throughout the Triangle throughout the week. These cells probably won’t be very large and aren’t expected to move far from where they formed on any given day. Evaporation rates will exceed precipitation through Wednesday, so expect the ground to dry out again despite recent welcome rains.

Thursday and Friday will be a little different, as a low pressure system pushes a cold front into the eastern Carolinas on Thursday.

The result will be a fairly large area of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening and the passage of a cold front across the Carolinas from Thursday into Thursday night.

This front will likely stall above or just east of the Triangle on Friday, bringing us another day of showers and thunderstorms.
