Man killed in road rage incident in Taneytown

Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland; July 6, 2024 — On the 4th of Julyth2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and allied law enforcement agencies responded to an incident in the area of ​​Bear Run Road and Runnymede Road near Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland, for a driving aggression incident involving two vehicles that resulted in shots being fired and one person dying.

Investigators learned that Davon Joseph DABBS, a 20-year-old man with an address in Taneytown, and his 26-year-old male passenger, also of Taneytown, exited one of the vehicles. Christopher Patrick Moore 2anda 36-year-old man, also of Taneytown address, exited the second vehicle. The three people got into a verbal argument that escalated into physical violence. Moore’s fiancée, a 33-year-old woman, also of Taneytown, arrived at the scene during the altercation. She witnessed Moore being attacked and exited her vehicle with her legally purchased and carried handgun.

Moore’s fiancé told investigators she stated she had a gun, hoping it would deescalate the attack. Instead, DABBS lunged at her and a physical assault ensued over possession of the gun, during which DABBS was shot in the left leg. At some point, DABBS managed to get the gun into his possession and attacked her with several punches to the face. DABBS then fired several shots, one of which struck his passenger in the hand and two of which struck Moore in the chest. The female victim suffered a broken jaw and injuries to her head and face and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. DABBS and his passenger were taken to a regional hospital for medical treatment of their injuries, which were not life-threatening. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the other occupants of the vehicles were injured.

On July 6th2024, DABBS was arrested without incident at a Taneytown residence. He was transported to Carroll County Central and charged with the following offenses:

CR-201 First Degree Murder – Christopher Patrick Moore 2and

CR3-202 First Degree Assault – Christopher Patrick Moore 2and

CR3-203 Second Degree Assault – Christopher Patrick Moore 2and

CR3-202 First Degree Assault – Female Victim

CR3-203 Second Degree Assault – Female Victim
