MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Another former Mountaineers fan favorite will get a chance to impress the team’s scouts during the NBA 2K25 Summer League, which kicks off later this month.

Emmitt Matthews Jr. played four seasons at West Virginia University, including a one-year stint in Washington. It was announced Friday that Matthews has been selected to the Atlanta Hawks’ Summer League roster.

He is one of the 13 players selected.

Since his last game with WVU at the end of the 2022-23 season, Matthews has played for Atlanta’s G-League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks. In 19 G-League games last season, Matthews averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He averaged 14.3 minutes per game.

The Hawks 2K25 Summer League schedule begins July 12 in Las Vegas. They will play four games, three of which will be televised nationally on ESPN or ESPN2.

Matthews’ final season at WVU was likely his last. He averaged 10.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. The Tacoma, Wash., native totaled 917 points, 450 rebounds and 104 assists during his four years in Morgantown.

Recent WVU graduates RaeQuan Battle (Hornets) and Jesse Edwards (Timberwolves) will also participate in the NBA Summer League.
