Two of them are sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a woman in Raigad district of Maharashtra

Alibaug: A court in Raigad district of Maharashtra has sentenced two men to 10 years in prison after they were convicted of raping a woman almost four years ago.

In his order on Wednesday, Principal District Judge AS Rajandekar also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on convicts Suresh Lahanu Naik and Vishal Krishna Mhatre.

According to the prosecution, Naik and Mhatre targeted the woman on December 19, 2020 in Alibaug taluka when she was driving to her daughter’s house on a hilly path. The two forced her to drink alcohol and took turns raping her.

When the woman’s relatives tried to intervene, the two men attacked her with stones, prosecutor Smita Dhumal Patil said in court.

After hearing both sides, the court found Naik and Mhatrea guilty and sentenced them to 10 years in prison.

A total of 15 witnesses testified in court during the trial.
