Deadly shooting in Aroostook County town under investigation

A 22-year-old man from Presque Isle died Thursday from injuries sustained in the shooting, a press release said. Maine State Police are investigating.

WESTMANLAND, Maine – A Presque Isle man has died from injuries sustained in a shooting in a small Aroostook County town on Thursday.

The fatal shooting in Westmanland is currently being investigated by Maine State Police.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit-North responded to a shooting on Westmanland Road Thursday evening.

Brandon Belanger, 22, of Presque Isle, died Saturday as a result of the shooting, the news release said.

There is no danger to the population, the statement said.

The investigation is being led by the MSP Major Crimes Unit-North. The Maine Department of Public Safety said additional information may be released if needed.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Westmanland had a population of 79 people in 2020.
