Iowa receiver Kaleb Brown arrested for driving under the influence and having a fake license

According to police, Iowa receiver Kaleb Brown was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and possessing a fake driver’s license.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa receiver Kaleb Brown was arrested early Sunday for driving under the influence and possession of a fake driver’s license, police said.

Iowa City police reported that Brown, 20, was seen in a heavily damaged SUV with one wheel turned “completely sideways.” The report said Brown backed the vehicle into a grassy area and spun the tires. He had “bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, loss of balance and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.”

Brown was in possession of a fake ID that indicated he was over 21 years old, police said. He refused to submit to a breath test, was detained and later released, police reports said.

According to a preliminary court order, Brown has been assigned a public defender. It was unclear Monday whether he has been assigned an attorney.

Iowa released a statement saying Brown was subject to the university’s student-athlete code of conduct and team rules, but did not specify a possible punishment.

Brown, a junior from Chicago, caught 22 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown in 11 games for the Hawkeyes last season. He came to the Iowa program after spending a year at Ohio State.
