Russian attack on Ukrainian Kharkiv leaves two dead - rescue workers

Two people were killed and more than 50 injured in a Russian attack on a residential building in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, rescue workers said on Sunday, revising the previously reported death toll downwards.

Russia has stepped up its attacks on the northeastern region of Kharkiv after launching a new offensive there last month, seeking to break the largely static front line as the invasion enters its third year.

A five-story residential building was damaged by guided bombs in the city of Kharkiv on Saturday, Ukrainian officials said. The state emergency service said rescue operations would be completed by Sunday morning.

“As a result of this aerial bombing, two people were killed and 53 others were injured, including three children,” Telegram said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced three deaths on Saturday and condemned Russia’s “calculated terror”.

An engineer who was injured in a Russian attack on an energy facility in the southern Zaporizhia region has died in hospital, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said on Sunday.
