Police respond to child endangerment incident due to drunk driving on Jefferson Street, Napa

On June 9, 2024, at approximately 12:37 p.m., the Napa Fire Department (NFD)
responded to Starbucks (3375 Jefferson St) regarding a medical report. Leslie Tapia
was found by NFD staff at Starbucks. NFD examined Leslie and found that she
was extremely drunk and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. While
When speaking to medical staff, Leslie said she did not know where her vehicle or 2-
year-old child. Leslie told the medical staff that she did not remember the last time she had been at the Kennedy
Park duck pond with her child and she thought she might have left her child in her
Vehicle.

Medical personnel contacted the NPD and officers began searching Kennedy Park for the
Vehicle and child. Officers searched the area of ​​Kennedy Park and Leslie’s residence
We were unable to find the vehicle or the child at any of the locations.

The NPD officers were then informed that Leslie had been contacted by the NFD.
Starbucks on Jefferson Street. Officers arrived in the Starbucks area and found
the vehicle and the child near McDonalds. The 2-year-old was found in the vehicle,
still secured in his car seat. The child looked wet and appeared to be shaking.
NFD and American Medical Response (AMR) were called to the scene to
child. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The child was treated
and later handed over to family members.

During the investigation, officers determined that Tapia’s actions put her child in
Conditions likely to cause serious bodily harm or death. It was also found that Tapia
was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tapia was arrested and taken to the Napa County Jail.

Napa County Child Protective Services was also contacted and informed of the incident.”
