Here’s a heat wave for Buffalo, Western New York!

Buffalo, New York (WBEN) – Tuesday and Wednesday will be peak heat in the Buffalo-Niagara region as temperatures and humidity soar, pushing apparent temperatures near 100°F in many locations.

And astrological summer won’t even arrive until Thursday.

“We’re just going to continue to get warmer throughout the day,” National Weather Service meteorologist Liz Jurkowski told WBEN. “We won’t have much relief tonight until Wednesday, so the peak heat of the week will be today and tomorrow.”

Heat advisories are posted for the entire Western New York region through Thursday due to intense heat that has forced many schools to reduce weekdays to half days.

What warmth ?

“We’re looking at highs today around the 90s in Western New York, and the 80s in the South over higher terrain,” Jurkowski said. “Tomorrow you’ll see highs similar to today, so you’re looking at heat indices in the mid to upper 90s across Western New York.”

There won’t be much to hide from the heat during the night either. Overnight lows will be in the 70s and humidity will persist. “We’re only getting back to the mid 70s at night, so it’s going to stay muggy and not very comfortable to sleep in.”

There will also be scattered showers and thunderstorms at times, especially in the afternoon and early evening.

When will help arrive?

Some improvement will occur on Thursday, albeit gradual. “We will start to see a cooling trend starting Friday and continuing through the weekend,” Jurkowski notes. Temperatures will remain near normal for the weekend and early next week.
