Chicago shootings this weekend: Police say at least 35 people were shot and 4 killed in shootings across the city this weekend

CHICAGO (WLS) — According to police, at least 35 people were shot in gun violence in Chicago this weekend, four of them fatally.

Three people were shot, one fatally, on the South Side early Sunday, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Evans Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

A 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Another 38-year-old man was shot in the chest and taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

A 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the buttocks was also taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Police believe several gunmen fired shots at the victims before fleeing the scene.

No one is in custody and Area One detectives are investigating.

Within five hours on Friday night, a series of shootings occurred, all on the city’s West Side.

Among those killed in the violence was a 13-year-old boy.

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the head and killed in a shooting in Chicago on South Independence Boulevard in Lawndale on Friday, police said.

According to police, the boy was shot shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday night while standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard in the Lawndale community.

He died at Stroger Hospital, police said.

Less than two hours later, shortly after 10 p.m., a 34-year-old man was shot while driving his car in the 4300 block of West Monroe Street in West Garfield.

According to police, the man then rammed several parked cars. The man was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

About 20 minutes later, a 49-year-old woman, a 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were shot in a backyard in the 500 block of North Laramie in South Austin.

According to CPD, the 33-year-old woman is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital, while the others are in good condition.

Four other people are recovering after similar shootings early Saturday on the West Side.

According to CPD, one is in serious condition while three others are in good condition.

The weekend began violently in Chicago: within five hours there were a series of shootings, all on the city’s West Side.

Shortly after noon on Sunday, two men were shot in the Englewood neighborhood on the south side.

Police said the victims were in the 7000 block of South Green Street when a vehicle approached them and someone inside the vehicle opened fire.

The men went to a hospital where they were said to be in good condition.

A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting Saturday in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.

The two were in a car in the 3000 block of North Cicero Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when someone in another car fired shots after stopping next to them, Chicago police said.

The 30-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were both injured and drove themselves to Community First Medical Center, where the man was pronounced dead and the woman was in critical condition, police said.

No arrests were reported.

Last weekend, at least 33 people were shot in gun violence across the city, five of them fatally, police said.
